About Body Fat Percentage

Body fat percentage is the proportion of fat to the total body weight. It's a better indicator of fitness level than BMI alone, as it distinguishes between muscle and fat mass.

Measurement Methods:
  • US Navy Method: Uses circumference measurements (waist, neck, hips). Most commonly used and reasonably accurate.
  • YMCA Method: Simplified approach using waist measurement and weight. Quick but less accurate.
Measurement Tips:
  • Measure at the same time of day, preferably morning
  • Use a flexible measuring tape
  • Don't compress the skin, tape should be snug but not tight
  • Take measurements on bare skin for accuracy
  • Take multiple measurements and use the average
Important: These calculations provide estimates. For most accurate results, use professional methods like DEXA scan, hydrostatic weighing, or bioelectrical impedance.
