About Pregnancy Due Date Calculation
The estimated due date (EDD) is calculated using Naegele's rule, which adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. Only about 5% of babies are born on their actual due date.
Calculation Methods:
- Last Menstrual Period (LMP): Most common method used by healthcare providers
- Conception Date: More accurate if you know the exact conception date
Pregnancy Trimesters:
- 1st Trimester: Weeks 1-12 (0-13 weeks 6 days)
- 2nd Trimester: Weeks 13-26 (14-27 weeks 6 days)
- 3rd Trimester: Weeks 27-40+ (28 weeks until delivery)
Important Terms:
- Preterm: Before 37 weeks
- Early Term: 37-38 weeks 6 days
- Full Term: 39-40 weeks 6 days
- Late Term: 41-41 weeks 6 days
- Post Term: 42 weeks or later
Remember: This calculator provides an estimate. Your healthcare provider may adjust
your due date based on ultrasound measurements and other factors.
Important: Always consult with your healthcare provider for personalized medical advice
and regular prenatal care throughout your pregnancy.
